Dade City boy recovering after struck by float in holiday parade

DADE CITY, Fla. (AP) - A 5-year-old boy is recovering after he was struck by a float during a parade in southwest Florida.

Dade City Police officials say it's unclear whether the boy was run over or just knocked down during Friday's parade.

The child was treated at a Tampa hospital for unknown injuries, but he appeared alert as he was loaded into an ambulance. He is not being identified.

A 9-year-old boy was killed during the 2007 Christmas parade when he was run over by a float while reaching for candy.

Dade City, Florida -- A child was struck by a float at the city's Christmas Parade tonight, police said.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the downtown area. There was no immediate word on the severity of injury.

Police were expected to release information on the incident later tonight.

Letter carriers picking up Toys for Tots this weekend

Tampa, Florida -- Marines and letter carriers are hoping to fill a South Tampa warehouse with toys for Bay Area kids through Saturday's Toys for Tots drive.

Helping kids in Tampa Bay have a great Christmas couldn't be simpler.

On Saturday, December 3rd, leave a new, unwrapped toy (or leave several toys!) next to your mailbox.

Letter carriers in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco, Hernando, and Manatee counties will collect the toys and hand them over to Toys for Tots.

State Farm supports Good Neighbor Toy Drive

Tampa, FL -- State Farm has announced that it is joining forces with Metropolitan Ministries to help those less fortunate in the Tampa Bay area.

From now until Dec. 9, you can drop off new, unwrapped toys at State Farm agents' offices in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties.

Dade City: Parade plus football equals busy Friday

Dade City, FL -- The Dade City Police Department has issued information about this Friday's events for residents:

"On Friday, Dec. 2, the City of Dade City along with the Dade City Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the annual Christmas Parade.

The parade will begin at 7 p.m. and close the downtown area between Sumner Avenue to Howard Avenue on 7th Street and Meridian Avenue from 10th St. to the US 98 By Pass. This area will be closed down until approximately 9 p.m.

Land O'Lakes, FL -- If you are tired of looking at your neighbor's abandoned overgrown lawn or even concerned about a possible foreclosure that isn't being reported, the county has arranged a place online to report it.

A lot of community residents are concerned about neighborhood safety because these abandoned homes maybe breeding grounds for criminal activity. Moreover, they can be an eyesore to those of us who try to keep our neighborhoods "tidy".
